AC Unit Retirement

Most air conditioning units are only going to be good for about ten to fifteen years. Is your AC unit at the age of retirement yet? If so, you may want to consider getting a new air conditioning unit. Just remember that your AC unit may last less time or longer than this, depending on various factors. One such factor is the maintenance you have given it over the years. The less maintenance it has gotten, the shorter it will probably last.

Major Parts or Repairs

If your warranty has already expired on your air conditioning unit and there are major parts you need for it or big repairs, you may just want to get a new unit. There are some repairs and parts that are just too costly. It wouldn’t be worth paying to have them replaced or fixed. If you talk to Peaden air conditioning experts, we can recommend whether to have something fixed, replaced, or whether you should get a new AC unit.

No Comfort

One of the worst things is when your air conditioning unit isn’t keeping you comfortable any longer. When it is hot in the summer, you want your air conditioning unit to be working the best it possibly can be. You want to feel that cool air flowing throughout your home. However, if you find that your home is humid instead of cool, it may be time to get a new AC unit.

High Electric Bills

Many people find their electric bills are much higher during the summer. If this is the case for you, it may be because your air conditioning unit isn’t as effective as it could be. There may be major issues with it or it may just be getting old. You can talk to an AC unit expert at Peaden to see what the cause is for your unit not working as well. We can help you to figure out the cause of your high electric bill and whether you need a new AC unit.

When it comes to AC repair or whether or not you need to get a new air conditioning unit, you can always trust in Peaden experts to help you out.

If you want to improve your energy efficiency this summer, you should turn up the thermostat. It is best to have it at about 78 degrees, but definitely have it to a tolerable level. You can try out different degrees to see what works best for you and your family members.

Checking the Filters

Another way to improve the energy efficiency in the summer is to check the filters regularly. You want to make sure the airflow is moving efficiently through the home. If the filters are dirty, this is going to prevent proper airflow. Peaden can help you replace the filters if need be.

Getting a Tuneup on the AC Unit

If you want to improve the energy efficiency throughout your home this summer, another way to do that is by getting a tuneup on your AC unit. Peaden has professional AC repair workers who can provide this tuneup service for you.

Proper Lighting

You can use LED bulbs to improve the energy efficiency in your home as well. These bulbs will help to lower your energy bill by around 75 percent if you use them all throughout your home.

Sealing the Doors and Windows

Our Peaden electrician experts also recommend that you seal your doors and windows. If you have high energy bills in the summer, it may be because there is air leaking out of the home. You can reduce your energy bills by having a professional seal up the doors and windows.

Unplugging Electronics

If there are electronics you aren’t using regularly, you should always unplug them. You may be paying more than $100 each year because you have electronics plugged in that aren’t being used. This standby power can be reduced significantly just by unplugging the electronics.

Checking the Efficiency of Your Refrigerator

Many homes don’t have a highly efficient refrigerator. This may be something you want to check on. If the refrigerator is too cold, it may be costing you a lot more money on your energy bill.

Peaden has many professional electricians who can help you to lower your energy bills for the summer. These are some of the tips to help you out this summer and every summer from here on out.

Air Conditioning Unit Ice: Why Is It Happening?

Many people in Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach, and Panama City have found that there is ice on their air conditioning unit during the summer. It is so hot out and they don’t know why there is ice forming on their AC unit. This is much more common than you might think. There are two main reasons why this happens. The evaporator coil may have low airflow or the refrigerant levels may be low as well.

Evaporator Coil Low Airflow

You have an evaporator coil in your air conditioning unit. This is a very important part of your AC unit. The warm air will blow over your evaporator coil. The refrigerant will take away the heat out of the air. Then, the colder air will be sent back out throughout the home. However, if there isn’t enough warm air pushing against your evaporator coil, the refrigerant will become too cold. This can lead to the line on the refrigerant freezing up. There are various things that could cause this problem including the following:

  • A dirty or dusty evaporator coil
  • An air filter that is clogged
  • Blower fan issues
  • Leaky or collapsed air ducts
  • Blocked or closed air vents

If you call Peaden, we can check to see if any of these issues are happening.

Refrigerant Level Issues

Another reason why you may be getting ice on your air conditioning unit is when the refrigerant is low. When it is low, the temperature of the leftover refrigerant may drop down quite a bit, because of the lower pressure. This leads to the AC pipe freezing up. If you do have a low refrigerant level, it is likely due to a leak somewhere. You might see some problems besides the low refrigerant including the following:

  • Air leaking from the vents that is warmer
  • Higher energy bills
  • Hissing or bubbling noises from your refrigerant line

If you are noticing these issues, now is the time to call Peaden. If you think you do have a refrigerant leak, be sure to call Peaden right away. This isn’t good for your air conditioning unit or your energy bills. Our air conditioning experts can come to your home and repair the leak in your air conditioning unit.

Do you notice there is ice on your air conditioning unit? Are you noticing there isn’t as much cold air coming from your vents?
